Lost Opportunity

The election on last Tuesday was not a wave, was not a great victory for Democrats. It was partly a typical sixth year of a second term presidency and partly a failure of the Republican Leadership of the Senate and House. Corruption by some Congressman and allegations of corruption helped the Democrats portray the whole Congress as corrupt. Congress had a chance to do big things that would have improved the country but they did not leap at the chance. They should have tried to reform social security, reform the tax code (by enacting a fair tax system), and welfare reform. Some in Congress should have stood by the president and not runny away from him, it might have made a difference in this election.

We are now in the minority after twelve years of Republican control, now we must act like the minority party but we must not be pushovers just because we lost. We need to be tough and stand firm on our beliefs. The Republicans in Congress must show through their actions that Americans can have confidence and trust in them. The other thing we need to learn is to be effective communicators and aggressive debaters on where we stand on the issues. The good thing about being in the minority party is we can question everything the majority does.
